N Wireless Base Station Evaluation Board Interoperability Guide General Description National Semiconductor offers several tools for the evaluation of its high-speed data converters for wireless base stations. These tools include evaluation boards, software and user guides. Listed in Table 1 below are the high-speed A/D and D/A converters and associated evaluation boards that are available from the Wireless Base Station group. National also offers data acquisition hardware to simplify evaluation of the high-speed A/D converters and the Diversity Receiver Chip Set. The Data Capture Board, CLC-CAPT-PCASM, provides a means to easily collect and process data from different evaluation boards when connected to the user's PC. The data capture board enables simple evaluation of National Semiconductor's High Speed Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) and the Diversity Receiver Chip Set (DRCS). These evaluation boards connect directly to the data capture board. The data capture board interfaces the outputs of these devices to the standard serial port available on the back of most PCs. PC software is provided with the Data Capture Board to control the data capture function and Matlab(R) scripts are also supplied for data analysis. Interoperability Items ADC and DRCS evaluation boards: Many of the evaluation boards (i.e. ADCs and DRCS) can be interfaced directly with the Data Capture Board. The Data Capture Board uses a "Dual Row 64 Position DIN Connector" for interfacing with evaluation boards. Newer evaluation boards use a "Four Row 96 Position and Four Row 24 Position Futurebus+ Connector" for interfacing with data acquisition tools. In order for these boards to interface with the Data Capture Board, an adapter (i.e. ADC/DRCS to capture CLC730107) is used to interface between the DIN connector on the Data Capture Board and the Futurebus+ connector on these new evaluation boards. Figures 1 and 2 on page 2, are photos taken of the connectors being used on the ADC and DRCS evaluation boards as well as the Data Capture Board. In Figure 1, the Data Capture Board with its DIN connector is shown on the bottom of the photo with an evaluation board that also has a DIN connector shown at the top of the photo. In this case, no adapter is required for the Data Capture Board to interface with the evaluation board. The mating connector allows the evaluation boards to be wired to a custom fixture or customer specific circuit. In Figure 3, the Data Capture Board with its DIN connector is shown at the bottom of the photo. An evaluation board with a mating connector attached to its DIN connector is shown at the top of the photo. This mating connector must not be attached to an A/D or DRCS evaluation board DIN connector when interfacing to the Data Capture Board.
